Q. What is a traffic door?
A. A traffic door is a double acting door that provides a barrier between two areas. Double acting means that the door swings in either direction. Traffic doors are designed to be opened by impact. What type of impact, traffic and function of the door will help us in helping you to determine which type of traffic door will work best for your application.
Q. Are there other names for a traffic door?
A. Yes, the most common names are impact doors, double acting doors, swinging doors, double swinging doors, sheet doors, and bump doors to name a few.
Q. Why would I use a traffic door?
A. Traffic doors are an excellent choice for applications where a high volume of traffic exists and minimal access is desired. The doors serve as a thermal, visual, sound or secure barrier for your opening.
Q. What information should I have prior to purchasing a traffic door?
A. - What is the finished opening size? Width and height measured from inside frame (finished opening).
- What type of traffic will be going through the door?
- Is there an airflow difference between the two areas?
- Does the door need to be gasketed?
- What do you want the door to do? Control temperature, provide a visual barrier, standup under abusive applications.
Q. How do you measure for a traffic door?
A. Always measure your finished opening (inside jamb), take at least 2 width and 2 height measurements at two different areas of opening in case your jamb is not square. If your jamb is not square, give us the smallest measurement to ensure the door will fit in your opening. Do not give us your "door" measurement.
Q. If the door is double acting (swings both ways), why do you ask for handing and how do I know what the handing is?
A. We ask for the handing to give the finished side of door to the customers view area. To determine handing, stand and look at the opening from the customers side. If the hinges are on the right it is a "right hand" door, if the hinges are on the left, it is a "left hand" door.
Q. Do you supply doorjambs with your doors?
A. No, normally we do not supply jambs. We ask that you check with your local supplier.
Q. Do you stock any traffic doors?
A. We custom make each door as they are ordered. So, no we do not stock doors.
Q. Do you offer a "quick ship" on doors?
A. Yes, Carlson will build your doors in 7 working days for a slight up charge. Call Carlson for details.
Q. What is your standard "lead-time" on doors?
A. Our standard lead-time is 14 working days or sooner.
Q. Does Carlson install the traffic doors?
A. No, typically we do not install our traffic doors. We may be able to give you names of installers in your city.
Q. Do we manufacture a fire rated traffic impact door?
A. No, impact doors do not latch and therefore cannot be labeled a "fire rated" product.
